Is Covid at my Door?
Judith G. Levy is immuno-compromised, and she has been very careful to protect herself from getting infected with the Covid-19 virus. Starting in October 2021, she began taking photographs daily through the peephole in the front door of her house, peeking out from what felt like a place of safety. Over time, what began as an anxious effort grew into a ritualistic practice that offered her meditative moments, as she connected with the world outside her door. The landscape beyond, albeit it consisted of a suburban, front lawn, became a healing agent, as well as reminder of nature’s beauty and enduring capacity for change. As she collected these images, they became a diary-like documentation of the passing of time during heightened concerns. She continued to photograph daily throughout March of 2022, when she received her second booster vaccination.
