Installations > Family Memoir

This work was inspired by hand-made road signs that usually advertise yard sales or farm vegetables. I have had an ongoing interest in narrative, particularly how it is used to tell both formal and informal history. I also like to use ordinary formats for provocative purposes. It occurred to me that I could create my personal, family history on road signs, and share very revealing stories in a public way. As signs generally have a counter part, I decided they would be partnered with posters that further illustrate my family history through photos and text. This work conveys the emotional truth of my family's history and is a continuation of my interest in how familial stories, popular culture and public history intersect.
