Among the Trees is a video installation created from hundreds of found 35 mm slides and from edited found drone video that explores the range of the relationships we have with trees. The images move from small-scale intimacies to large-scale environmental disaster. The images on the left show how trees play a significant role in our personal lives and are part of family portraits, provide shade for picnics and create landscape for homes and parks. The middle images show how trees are observed by many amateur photographers and seen as objects of beauty or interest. The third part, on the right, is comprised of edited drone video of the California fires of 2018. While this imagery is devastating, it is also more abstract, suggesting that our relationship with trees can be distant and more abstract, especially when facing environmental policy and practice.
