Panoramic Postcards, an ongoing series
This Panoramic Postcard is about our nation's legacy of slavery, how we create memorials, the complex natures of our founding fathers, and the financial role of the North in the South's slave economy. In this postcard I include Kansas City's red-roofed Swope Park building and a statue of George Washington from a downtown park to reference Missouri as a slave state and to acknowledge that Washington owned slaves. On the left are Newport, Rhode Island mansions who were owned by wealthy Northerners who invested in plantations. The predominant structure on the postcard is the restored, slave auction house that became a tourist site. Postcards from South Carolina, California, Kansas City, Rhode Island, and more were used to create this card.
